I always feel like 007 when I blog at work. I've usually got my hand on the Alt and Ctrl tabs, so that I can quickly switch back to my Outlook window. The problem is that I enjoy this so much more than working, but blogging doesn't exactly pay the bills. Actually, I was considering putting Google Adsense on here... but I figured it would just muck up the look. Plus, who clicks on those ads anyways? It's unfortunate though, because on some of those ads, you can make like, 10 cents, but on others, you can make like 10 bucks. I'll keep it in mind, but I think maybe it's a little too late. If I had been doing it this whole time, I might be ballin'. But who knew I'd be keeping up GB this long?!
Whilst at Sullivan's last night (something that, although fun, is kicking me in the ass right now), I looked up to the tv and saw this, in all of its glory:
Lebron James... dressed in Hammer Pants on the ESPYS. I shrieked, and went, "it's hammer time, Lebron!"
And then... I found this.
A 1991 MC Hammer doll on eBay. Holy shit. Yeah, so my birthday is in like a month and 4 days... Cough cough.
This is going to be a really music-heavy post today, because it's a slow news day, and I gathered all of my material in the morning, when no one reports things. So either go out and do something that gets you on 9News, or read this post. Either option is pretty awesome.
Stars, a Canadian indie-pop band, are set to release a new album soon. There are a few tracks floating around the internet, but I'm unfortunately too busy listening for feet shuffling down the hall to look for them. "Elevator Love Letter" is by far my favorite song of theirs, even though it's a bit old. I highly anticipate myself posting more stuff from them when it comes out in the next few days.
If any of you are friends with me on MySpace, then you might have noticed my new profile song. No? It's alright... MySpace is weird. Facebook owns.
Uh, anyways, my new profile song is "Stop Me" by Mark Ronson. He's a pretty amazing DJ/Producer, in the same vein as Kaskade; not in the techno sense, but in the way that he uses different artists for his songs. "Stop Me" is a cover of a Smiths song, just updated, and with a catchier beat.
Here's the original song, complete with Moz on a bicycle. Awesome.
Oh, here's a news item that made me drool... supposedly sometime within 6 months or so, Apple is set to release multi touch iPods that are similar to the iPhone.
Apple is preparing to launch a next-generation video iPod in August that features a touch-screen panel similar to the iPhone, according to DigiTimes. Citing "sources at upstream suppliers," the Far Eastern rumor publication reports that Wintek will be supplying the touch panels for the players. "The Taiwan-based panel maker will begin shipping capacitive touch screen panels in the second half of 2007," DigiTimes said. "The company noted that its touch screen panels will be used with customers' own software and ICs." During a private meeting last month, Apple's traditionally tigh-lipped chief executive Steve Jobs all but broke the silence on the future of the video iPod. Speaking to employees at the Apple Town Hall, he said a division of the company was hard at work on next-generation iPods that, like iPhone, would run an embedded version of the Mac OS X operating system. Picking up on Jobs' comments were Wall Street analysts such as Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster, who in a report to clients earlier this week suggested that the current iteration of iPhone represents much of what Apple's flagship iPod line will soon be. "Specifically, we expect Apple to release high capacity iPods based on OS X sometime during or before Macworld '08 in January," he wrote. According to Munster, whose reports appear to be somewhat speculative, the new video iPod players would likely include touch-screen media features akin to the iPhone, but not include wireless phone capabilities or Internet features. "
Here's another article, on the capacity of (or lack thereof) your brain, including things like "you have two nervous systems: one set controls excitation and the other controls inhibition. If you hold out your hand, you might notice minor tremors. This is caused by slight, random differences in the amount each of the two systems are firing." Hmm. Interesting.
I'm going to post the new Editors video, because I've watched this thing like 3 times without actually listening to it -- they're a stellar band, but they're just a little too dark for me right now.
Alright, just two more artists to watch, before I have to quit. I know everyone's attention spans are just as short as mine, so I'll keep it quick.
The first is a guy called Justice. He's not so much indie, but more like LCD Soundsystem -- very dance-y and catchy. My absoloute favorite song of his is "DVNO". Here's the video. It's another one of those terribly boring videos that's better off not being watched, and only listened to. The song is still awesome though.
If you're into it, here's an mp3 of a mashup between Jay-Z, and Justice's song "DANCE". It's pretty good.
Alright, the second is Calvin Harris. He's British (of course), and makes equally awesome dance-y music. This is the video for his newest single, "Merrymaking at My Place".
I'm going to make the most awesome indie dance mix, I just decided.
Oh, and Nicole Richie's trial has been postponed until my birthday, (August 16th) because an "expert witness" will be on vacation. However, isn't her own admission that she was high and on Vidodin enough?
This is also fun -- the cadaver calculator. Find out how much your dead body is worth. Mine's worth a dismal $4355 -- it's all the drinking. The best question: "Are you an albino?"
Holy shit. This video made me go,"noooooooooo" under my breath as I watched it.
"Will It Blend? iPhone Smoothie"
"iSmoke. Don't breathe it!"
Alright, the last thing I'm going to do in this post is name-check Boy Meets Ipod. It's my friend Mark's new music blog, which I have high aspirations for, seeing as he helps fuel my indie-music-obsession. If it's possible, Mark spends more time perusing the internet than I do, and therefore has a greater expertise on the bands that he likes (whereas I'm all over the place. Seriously, why didn't my parents get my checked out for ADD?!). Check it out; I'm sure it's gonna take off like crazy. Plus, he hosts mp3s, which I'm still terrified to do.
